Next to the beach in Scheveningen is a collection of statues. This head is lying there in the dunes, as if someone lost his face or mask.

Snorkels!

A small store in the Staalstraat in Amsterdam sells these little swimmers. They are hanging out together in a bowl on the sidewalk. I briefly considered setting them free in a canal… but the water there is so dirty, they wouldn’t see a thing. So I left them there.

Against the sky

Last week was tourist-in-own-country-week: the in-laws came from Lebanon. So we went to Amsterdam, Marken, Volendam, Nijmegen, Den Haag en Rotterdam, and tried to give them a glimpse of what this country is like. Lots of boats: check. Lots of international cuisine: check. Lots of wind: check. This picture is taken on the ferry between Marken and Volendam. Pretty typical, I’d say!

Not a lot to discover

For me, this is the city I grew up in, and there’s not much new to discover (although I love the sunlight and the colors of the skies in the Netherlands, and hope to be able to capture that on film one day!). For the cats there’s also not much to do: the backyard is a few square meters with brick on all sides. So Sidjit sits on a shelf to entertain herself.
